The Nubian Directions YouthBuild AmeriCorps students traveled to the local food pantry to provide food and supplies to those in need.
On April 19th, 2023, a group of students from Poughkeepsie YouthBuild AmeriCorps went to the Trinity Temple Food Pantry in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Their goal was to help the staff provide food and supplies to those in the community who were in need. The experience proved to be both educational and rewarding for the students, as they learned valuable lessons about empathy and gratitude.
The Nubian Directions YouthBuild AmeriCorps students showed initiative and covered every area of the food pantry, making the experience more efficient and less stressful for everyone involved.
They showed care, understanding, and compassion to those coming to the pantry. The experience allowed the students to see the simple things in life in a different way and appreciate them more.
During every task, the students were extremely organized and kept their stations clean while serving many people in the line. They also assisted the Trinity Temple staff in cleaning up afterward, breaking down boxes, and keeping the building clean.
This experience was of great importance, and through their partnership with YouthBuild AmeriCorps, the students were able to get service hours and get closer to earning the AmeriCorps grant, which could help them pursue higher education opportunities.
Overall, this experience has not only helped the Nubian Directions YouthBuild AmeriCorps students to gain valuable knowledge and work experience but also to develop empathy and a deeper understanding of the struggles faced by those who are less fortunate.
By providing assistance to those in need, the students have demonstrated their willingness to give back to the community and be an inspiration for others to follow.
